Abstract

This issue continues publishing L. Sabaneyevʼs brochure “Claude Debussy”, started in the journal Music Scholarship No. 4 for 2021. If in the first part, according to the author, “the gallery of Debussyʼs spiritual ancestors who shaped his creative world and appearance” was considered, then in the second part of the brochure published in this issue, Sabaneev is writing about the composerʼs style. The characteristic features of the metro-rhythmic organization, peculiarities of harmony, melody, forms, texture are revealed. Conditioned by the picturesque, contemplative, improvisational artistic thinking of Debussy, they generate a special “monotony” of his music, corresponding to the general picture of “half-tones, half-shadows of slowly… changing images”.

As in the previous magazine, the stylistics, punctuation and spelling of the original text (1922) are also fully preserved here.

Keywords: melos, rhythm, tectonics, harmony, texture, form, improvisation, picturesqueness, monotony.
