Abstract

The article discusses the musical embodiment of Ancient Greek images in the works of the greatest composers of Norway and Finland: E. Grieg, J. Sibelius, and D. M. Johansen. In this process, the relationship of “their” (ethnic) and “foreign” (nonindigenous) is essential. They are analyzed in a historical and comparative-typological perspective. In all cases, the author points to the personal, biographical, cultural and historical factors which have actively influenced the specificity of the interpretation of the Antique topos.
