Abstract

The article is devoted to the analyses of the content of Fantasy (Suit № 1) for Two Pianos
by S.V. Rachmaninov. It examines the history of creation and the artistic world (E.V. Nazaikinskyʼs term) of this work as an integral phenomenon. Fantasy is analyzed in the context of the musical culture of its time. Parallels are traced with the work of P.I. Tchaikovsky, whom it is dedicated to. For the first time it is analyzed the close relationship of the author’s titles, epigraphs, intonation and structural features of each parts with the logic of their musical composition. The article examines S.V. Rachmaninovʼs experience in creating musical works in accordance with the Statute of the church Bell Ringing adopted in the Russian Orthodox Church, reflected in the intonation basis and compositional features of the last two parts of the Fantasy. For the first time, a conclusion is drawn about the uniqueness of the creative idea of the work with a single storyline: the ascent from the fragility of passions through the bitterness of loss to heavenly love and life with Christ, that is typical for the Orthodox person worldview.
