On the Features of the Implementation of the Genre Canon in the Ballad “Sea” by A.P. Borodin

Abstract

The article is devoted to some issues of studying the ballad genre. The purpose of this work is to identify the parameters of the genre canon and show the features of its implementation in the ballad “The Sea” by A.P. Borodin. The typological properties of the composer’s vocal work related to the genre canon are summarized, which are considered at the level of content, dramaturgy, intra-genre structure, form, means of musical expression. Peculiarities of epic-lyric-drama correlation are traced, the features of polyfunctional composition inherent in the ballad forms of the Romantic era the role of the piano part, etc, are revealed. At the same time, the ballad “The Sea” reflects the general artistic and musical phenomena of the second half of the 19th century: such as the strengthening of the piano style concert quality, theatricality, the relief of musical images, as well as attention to the word.
