Abstract

The center of the study there is the formation of orchestral folk instrumental art stylistic features, within the framework of V.V. Andreevʼs musical ensembles activities, at first the balalaika ensemble and then the Velikorusskiy orchestra. The emerging components of the new instrumental style were not so much experiential-resulting as aʼpriori pre-determined. The artistic dispositions presented in the mind of this musician and enthusiast then were already realized in the experimental work on the construction of instruments and their sound, in the process of improving the performing techniques, in the course of rehearsal and conducting practice.
The examples of Andreevʼs creative immersion into the nature of folk-instrumental performance, the history of musical instruments and the theory of their construction placed in the article serve as arguments for his purposeful work on the development of the folk-orchestral style. On the one hand, the nature of this style goes deep into the traditions of folk instrumental performance, and on the other one, into the area of established 19th century notions about the nature of professional art, insistently mastering national-sounding forms of expression.
In the most general terms, creative musical and stylistic orientation of V.V. Andreevʼs creative stylistic approach could be described as an aspiration to harmoniously combining two Russian musical subcultures: the folk and the professional-academic ones. The most important component of the musicianʼs stylistic stance is the concern for strengthening the song and concerto elements in the ensembleʼs final instrumental sound.
