Abstract

This article presents an attempt to trace the history of the origin and development of the theatrical art by the example of the Krasnoyarsk Musical Theater (musical comedy theater) from the perspective of establishing the musical-theatrical performance tradition in the Krasnoyarsk region as well as to outline the ways of developing musical comedy as the light-genre theatrical art in Krasnoyarsk from the 19th century to nowadays.

The Krasnoyarsk Musical Theater in this research is presented from the inception of theatrical culture in the middle of the 19th century, from creating stable models of the musical and theatrical process of the first Soviet decades to establishing the system of the institution’s activities at present. In modern realities, among the large number of high-tech and easily accessible entertainments, to keep the viewer’s attention is very difficult. Strictly academic groups (the Krasnoyarsk Symphony Orchestra, the Opera and Ballet Theater) have recently been creating more mixed programs that include light genre and pop elements in order to expand their audience.

Thus, in the traditional academic field the “lightening” of the repertoire and mass culture takes place. The opposite trend is towards “academization”, although it is on a different scale we watch in the Krasnoyarsk Musical Theater, from the very beginning it is intended to be a place of easily accessible genres with a modestly accompanying orchestra.

Musical theater has a great importance in musical and theatrical performance by forming a special layer of forming easily accessible genres in Krasnoyarsk. This basis was formed by theatrical troupes from touring, local, amateur, professional musical and theatrical groups; as well as guest directors, artists, conductors from the central regions of Russia.
