Abstract

Music and fiction are united not only by the direct influence of music on literature, but also by the fact that both types of art go back to common aesthetic laws. In the article various aspects of the interaction of music and fiction are consiedered. There are two parts: on the impact of music on literature and on the impact of literature on music. The article analyzes prose from the standpoint of poetry, taking into account the specifics of the prosaic text. The musicality of fiction prose is considered in the article at various levels – phonic, syntactic, and compositional (according to the theory of E.V. Nazaykinsky). In this case, the literary fragment is divided into columns (according to the principle of semantic stress), and in the columns, depending on the placement
of accents, a size similar to that of a poem is determined. Of course, this metrical and rhythmic organization is freer than in poetry. But of course, some analogies are possible.

The article analyzes a specific example, an excerpt from the story of A.I. Kuprin “Golden Rooster”.

The interaction of music and literature at the compositional level is a more complex problem: the identification of musical forms in literary works, which is often found in the humanities, is controversial.

As for the impact of literature on music, literary terms are often used in music. In addition, in the era of romanticism, this is manifested at the level of genres. But especially interesting is the concept of “musical prose”, which is characteristic of some musical styles of the twentieth century. This refers to musical compositions that lack periodicity, squariness, repetitions, the “rhymed”
cadences, etc.

Keywords: мusicality of fiction, study of poetry, the specifics of prose text, phonic, syntactic, compositional levels, metric and rhythmic organization, “musical prose”.
