Abstract

The purpose of this article is to determine the main range of historical and cultural prerequisites for the emergence of musical and theatrical, specifically – operatic art in the Chuvash region. Convincingly considering this part of the multi-component complex of national musical art as one of the most distinctive and indicative areas of artistic culture, drawing a parallel with other republics of the Volga region, the author seeks to identify ways of forming its characteristic features. The main task was also the desire to determine the origins of artistic landmarks that have become dominant for the modern state of the musical and theatrical genre (opera) in Chuvashia. The researcher pays close, purposeful attention to the entire laborious process of preparing a favorable ground for the subsequent development of academic vocal art in the republic. One of the main, priority positions for the analysis being undertaken is the hypothetical assumption of the existence of its own, nationally oriented sources that influenced the very process of the emergence of the Chuvash opera and the nature of this process, its features in comparison with similar phenomena in other regions, in particular, geographically close territories of the republics of the Volga region. As a result of such research, a holistic idea of the beginning of the professionalization of the Chuvash musical culture as a whole is created.

Keywords: Musical culture of Chuvashia, national culture, origins of professional creativity of Chuvashia.
