Abstract

The article complements the methodology of the analysis of the vocal composition by the example of S.I. Taneyevʼs a cappella choirs. The author suggests an “instrumental” approach to choirs, which consists in the characteristic features of the composerʼs style, which is closely related to the European tradition. In this context, the classical complex plays an important role. It manifests itself in thematism and form formation, in the clarity of motif-thematic structures, in the widespread use of development and polyphonic techniques, in thematic connections within the form, in the classical logic of tonal relations, which generates additional connections of sections. On this basis, we consider the type of sonata-strophic form characteristic of S.I. Taneyev, which arises due to the active structural processing of the text by the composer. The analysis methodology involves the phenomenon of secondary syntax (the term T. Dubravskaya) – refers to repetitions of words, syntagmas and lines of the original source of the poem. As an example, we analyze the chorus of S. I. Taneyev “Sounds of the Surf” on the poems of K. Balmont op. 35. We consider the figurative antitheses of the poem, in which the thematic contrast is laid down, generating sonata; genre signs of thematism are fixed, a detailed scheme of the primary and secondary syntax of the text (the occurrence of additional stanzas) and its implementation in sonata-strophic form without elaboration is given. All examples of choirs where other varieties of the sonata-strophic form are used are also called.

Keywords: sonata-strophic form, secondary syntax, instrumental choral style, classical complex.
