Abstract

The article is devoted to dance forms which were written at the time
of developing a new instrumental style. The most popular of English
early-Baroque ensemble dances – pavane, galliard, and allemande – are
regarded from the point of view of correlation with the specific musicalstylistic
characteristics of the genre. The results of analytical research
revealed the process of transformation of applied art of dance into a new
functional quality, that of «absolute» music and its new content.
